Day 12

*sigh* What can I say? Another terrible night. The pressure on the ventilator is up to a worrisome setting and he is still at 60 bpm. The "paint shaker" (oscillator) is on stand-by and the nurse is waiting for the doctors to make the rounds and discuss what they want to do. He is on 100% oxygen and his latest blood gas wasn't so great. What happened to the 50% oxygen from yesterday? The line in his belly button that they used to draw blood has collapsed (they usually only last 10-14 days) and they are going to have to replace it with an IV sort of set-up so they don't have to stick him every time they need blood. Cody knows the official term, but I can't remember it. I am very worried about our little man. He responded well to the oscillator at first, but then hated it. They put him back on the ventilator and he was great and now he isn't doing so well. His left lung seems to have cleared a little, but now it is his right lung that is giving them fits. Please can SOMEthing be stable? I'm losing my mind.

On a good note, the blood transfusion has helped his blood pressure and he isn't on that medication right now. And, he still has wet diapers which is a good thing.

I wish that I could be there with you, but know that I am checking on Baby Rhys and praying religiously. My heart goes out to you and Cody. I love you all. Before you know it, Rhys will be holding his own with Max. :) I can't wait!

In times like this I don't really know the right things to say or do. Just know that we are thinking about you, Cody and Baby Rhys and praying for a speedy recovery. Please let us know if you need anything at all. He is so precious. I'm sure he takes after our side of the family which means he's a fighter and he'll never give up. Kiss those sweet little hands for me.

Love,
Aimee, Anthony Jake and Jolie

Being in the NICU is full of ups and downs. There's nothing I can say to make it any easier, but I can say that I've been where you are. Ryan's biggest struggles were also his lungs. I'll be praying for you.

"Be still and know that I am God". We are watching and waiting God, however our stillness is lacking. Please fill Cody and Candice with your peace and confidence. Lord you awesome and mighty in deed, you are Rhys' defender and deliver.

I said a prayer and lined up all the Marines in heaven to keep watch over Rhys and keep his name in God's ear. Jim and I are so sorry for your loss and will keep baby Rhys in our prayers. Much love to you all. We can't wait to hold him.

Rhys, I just want you to know that your Grammy really can write even though my previous posting shows otherwise

Hang in there. It is always darkest before the dawn. He will recover.

Those early times in the NICU were the darkest days for us. Just hearing someone talk about blood gasses and BPMs. . .brings it all back. Please know that there are a lot of us that have been there. I was fortunate enough to come across many during Olivia's 105 day stay. We're all here for you.

We know your pain and are praying for you.
Lord, be quick to answer all the prayers for your precious Rhys. You have told us that if two agree on earth concerning anything that we ask that it will be done for us by you-our Father in heaven. Father, there are many that are asking and agreeing in your name for healing for Rhys. Send your mighty healing-restore Rhys's lungs-help him to breath. Rhys breathe in the very breath of God!
Cody and Candice-may you feel God's presence and peace. Do not grow weary in your battle for at the appropriate time He will reap a harvest.
Praying for good blood gases, for the 02 and BPM's to be lowered-for Rhy's lungs to mature and clear of all fluid.
Blessings to all of you.

Candice, I know this is the last thing on your mind but please take care of yourself also... you just had major surgery only 13 days ago. It's so hard to do right now when all you're thinking about is your baby boy, but try to rest between visits.

I'm still lifting your little family up in my prayers daily and I think about you, Cody & Rhys all day. I'm so thankful that you have so many friends and relatives that love you and are praying for great things to happen.

Love, Mooms

You have our prayers...we're also parents of micropreemie twins (23 weekers) who lost one of our girls at 18 days....We know what you are going through and hope that they can stabilize Rhys soon. I couldn't tell if they had him on Nitric Oxide (this helped Hallie) or if his PDA is open...Closing her PDA was essential for Hallie's survival.

Anyway, our prayers and thoughts are with you and we're pulling for your little fighter!
